As an INDIVIDUAL THERAPIST, COUNSELOR, AND COACH, I understand that worries and concerns are common in a world that is uncertain. When you stop and think about it, what IS certain in the world? And of all the uncertain things to be concerned or worry about, why do you pick the particular uncertain thing to worry about? When we worry, we create stress for ourselves and others. And when we create stress for ourselves, we worry more. Stress is adaptive if we are being chased by an angry dog – stress response kicks in and we run for safety or fight back. Neuroscientists confirm that the stress response was meant for us humans to be short term. But worry (really a form of fear) makes it long term. And long term stress is harmful to us physically, mentally, and emotionally. So fear breeds stress, and stress breeds fear. It’s circular. We have to learn how to get out of the circle. I use evidence based methods - Cognitive Therapy (CT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) – to help you learn how to reduce stress – so often the primary influence in the cause and recurrence of depression, anger, anxiety, panic, procrastination, having to be perfect, compulsive pleasing of others at our own expense, grief and loss, school and academic performance, health, career and job change, financial concerns, and retirement concerns.
